Mail is set as the default email program on our Mac, so when we happen to click on an email link in anything (say, our browser), the Mail app automatically opens up and creates an email message. We don’t want that, we’d like to be able to designate our chosen email apps (I use Thunderbird, she uses Entourage). ![]() How do you change this? While there’s a lot about Mac OS X that I think is wonderfully crafted, changing the default email program (or Web browser, for that matter) is pretty baffling. If you already have an AOL email account set up on your iPad, you can tap its name on the Settings screen to view and edit its SMTP settings. Get Existing Emails From a Mac to an iPad. Add Your AOL Mail Account to Outlook 2011 Mac Using IMAP. To set up your Outlook client to work with AOL: Open Microsoft Outlook 2011. If you have just installed. In the old days, there was a separate Control Panel for changing all these settings, but now you need to know the trick For changing your default email program, it turns out you need to launch the Mail.app program just once to get to its Preferences panel. When you start it up, the program will step you through the configuration steps, but you don’t have to finish these steps, just go step-by-step until the Preferences option on the Mail menu isn’t greyed out. Once you can get to the Preferences, here’s what you’ll see: The topmost element is what you want to change: pick the mailer you’d prefer as your default email handler (You can see that I use Microsoft Entourage, not Apple Mail). Citrix older versions for mac. Click the little red button on the top left to close the window and quit Mail without finishing up the configuration steps. That’s all there is to it. If you wanted to change your default Web browser, by the way, Apple Safari has a similar option on its Preferences pane, in the “General” area. Why it’s not a part of the “Network” Control Panel, or even its own Control Panel, escapes me completely. Wouldn’t that be easier? I struggled with the email client reverting to Apple’s Mail whenever I clicked an email hyperlink (ie http ‘mailto’). No matter how many times I followed the steps in this article, Mail kept opening as my default email client. Turns out the issue is fixed within my browser – Firefox’s Preferences page. Since Firefox had Mail listed as my default client it was the culprit, changing the default anytime I clicked a mailto link. Mail and MacOS were not to blame so Apple is off the hook for this one. Hope this saves somebody some aggravation. I have been trying to do Print -> PDF -> Mail PDF and wanted my other email app to handle the new email message, but have found nothing that works to do this. I finally gave up, but I thought I’d post the details of the failure to warn others off trying what I did. First I followed the suggestion of setting the preference in Mail’s preference pane, but that didn’t work, as others trying to do this have found. Next, I installed and used Rubicode to try setting the preferences more granularly, but no matter what I tried, even changing every single reference to Mail to my other email app, iOS opened Mail to send the message. ![]() Finally, stupidly, I tried what somebody else suggested above, and deleted the Mail app altogether. I don’t know if it was because I did this after setting things using Rubicode, but for me, this caused a major hailstorm. When I tried to print to mail a PDF, I got an error saying the action “New Mail Message” had encountered an error and I should examine the preferences and try again. Much googling terms later I had failed to find any way to resolve that error – I couldn’t figure out how to edit the action’s preferences – and I decided to give up. To restore Mail, I used Pacifist and my install disks to install Mail only, then downloaded the Mac OSX Update Combo 10.6.5 to update to the latest version. In short, do not delete Mail, and frankly I wouldn’t recommend using Rubicode either unless you REALLY REALLY know what you are doing. I consider myself a power user and I’m a programmer (though not of Objective C or Applescript) and I don’t have enough REALLYs. See all the keyboard shortcuts for Excel 2016 for Mac. While you’re editing the text of a cell, you can simply press Alt+Enter (or Command+Option+Enter for Mac) to add a line break as shown below. NOTE: This will automatically set Wrap Text ON for cell A1. Let’s take a look at what happens when you turn Wrap Text OFF: Notice that in the formula bar the break is kept there, but it is one single line in cell A1. This is because Excel needs to format the break and Wrap Text is the way to do it. The formula bar is immune to show any formatting, but it will show you the data you have (in this case, some text, then a line break and some more text after). It’s just another way to show you that you have a break in the cell, but it’s not formatted to show it that way. Adding a Line Break in Cell Formulas To enter a line break in a cell formula, reference the text and concatenate it with the ampersand (or you can use the CONCATENATE() function) along with the function CHAR(10) to insert the break ( CHAR(13) on Mac). The CHAR() function takes in an integer and will show a character based on that integer. Please see for more info. The 10 ( 13 for Mac) in this case refers to the character “Line Feed.” Let’s take B1 and add a formula to combine cells A1 and A2 with a line break in between them. The formula to use is: =A1&CHAR(10)&A2 (Windows) =A1&CHAR(13)&A2 (Mac) Notice this time that Excel does not automatically turn on Wrap Text when we enter the line break as a formula. I have a spreadsheet with lots of records (name of institutions), but whoever created this file didn’t keep the case consistently. Some of the records are all in uppercase and some of them are in lowercase. I need to make them look correct now: first letter of each word should be uppercase. Is there anyway I can fix this without having to use code? Hi Hien, You would have to use 3 formulas, one for each cell to capture A, B, and C: =MID($A$1,1,1). Hi Ricardo, Yes, you can do that. Here’s a simple example to illustrate how. In cell A1 I have “Hi Joseph” In B1 I have the formula: =REPLACE(A1,1,3,LEFT(A1,2)&CHAR(10)) And I have set B1 to be formatted to use wrap text. I am using the REPLACE() function to change the “Hi ” (including the space) to “Hi”&Char(10) where Char(10) is the new line character. A basic introduction to the functionality of RAMPS 1.4 and how to. Required hardware: RAMPS 1.4 board. Hello all- This is my first day trying to hook up a reprap with RAMPS 1.4 I purchased assembled. I am trying to connect it to my Macbook Pro, via USB. It seems to want to connect as a USB modem, and Repsnapper will not connect to it. What am I missing? Thanks in advance! Edit: More info. I do get two green LED's on the ramps when trying to connect to the usb modem in system preferences, before it fails to connect. I also get some LED's when I press connect to printer in repsnapper. Any help would be appreciated, including suggestions on alternatives to repsnapper, and any way I can get this connected to my mac! Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 07:06PM by xkylewrightx. My guess is you need to set the baud rate within Repsnapper. /dev/tty.usbmodem1a21 (you may get different last four digits and letters) is the correct device to connect to a RAMPS board from a Macintosh. I used to use Repsnapper, but have found Pronterface (for the latest and the pre-compiled version with Slic3r built in is at []) to be much more user-friendly. If I remember right, RAMPS 1.4, at least from Ultimachine, come with Sprinter firmware preinstalled, and it defaults to 115200 bps. Make sure your console program, either Pronterface or Repsnapper, matches this, or else you will not get a connection to the printer. What version of Mac OSX and what version of Arduino are you using? ![]() Do not install an FTDI driver, it's not needed for the Macintosh. Does anything show up in that terminal window? If it is gibberish, you probably still have the baud rate wrong. Select that in the lower right corner of the terminal window, and then hit enter in the text box at the top, or try sending M115. When you get back readable text you will know you have the correct baud rate setting. Now you should be able to upload the firmware. I'm using the latest version of mac leopard (10.7.3?) and version 1.0 of arduino. I havent installed a FTDI driver either. In Arduino I have the correct board selected (Mega 2560) and the correct port (dev/tty.usbmodem411). After launching the Serial Monitor nothing is showing in it. I can change the baud rate, but nothing shows up in the output. Tried sending M115 and still nothing showed up in output I am not sure if my ramps needs firmware, or if I messed it up by trying to put firmware on it. I could not get sprinter to compile but marlin seemed to compile okay, then had a bunch of timed out errors when uploading. ![]() Maybe I am missing a step that should be obvious? Will look further tomorrow, thanks for the help so far. I don't know any way to disable the physical rest on the Arduino, it has always worked for me. You can always unplug and reconnect the USB cable, that too will reset it (the Arduino gets its power via US. It sounds like you are able to push code to it, and when you do an upload it will also reset the board and install new code, so an equally valid thing to do now is just push Marlin to it. Developer Valve Software plans to release native Mac versions of all of its games, including the upcoming and highly anticipated Portal 2, which it will release for Mac and PC computers simultaneously. Valve's first-person shooter games are among the most popular on the PC platform, and they include the entire Half-Life series, Team Fortress 2, Portal and both Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2. This announcement is no surprise; mixing Valve properties like Steam and Half-Life's Gordon Freeman in with classic Mac ad mock-ups. What's really cool and unexpected: When you buy a Steam game that's available for both Mac and PC, you're buying a license to the game on both platforms, so if you have a mix of PC and Mac computers in your life, you can play on all your machines. This month's issue of gaming enthusiast magazine Game Informer also reported that Portal 2 was coming to Mac and that a Steam beta for Mac was imminent. Jan 25, 2013 - While the game's Steam listing still lists it as Windows-only, we've just downloaded it and verified the game works just fine on the Mac. Now Joystiq is reporting that Valve has officially announced its plans. We're not sure yet whether Mac and PC users will be able to play online together, but because the developer framework is so closely tied (as Joystiq reports) we wouldn't be surprised.
